Stuart Handley Slusher, July 12, 1991-May 10, 2009

Stuart was a gifted student and athlete.  He attended Three Chopt and Maybeury Elementary Schools and George H. Moody Middle School, where he was enrolled in its International Baccalaureate Program.  He loved wrestling and baseball and was a member or co-captain at both middle and high schools.  Stuart was a junior at Douglas S. Freeman High School, where he was co-captain of the Varsity Wrestling Team and had been co-captain of the J.V. Baseball Team.  He was a member of the National Honor Society, reporter on the school newspaper, member of the the Interact Club, and Eagle Scout at Troop 799, and also a member of the Seventh Street Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon Team Leader and was a member of its youth group.  He was a past member of the Virginia Tigers AAU Baseball Team.

The Stuart H.Slusher Memorial Scholarship Fund objectives are:

The Corporation is organized and shall be operated exclusively for charitable and educational purposes within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986, as amended ("the Internal Revenue Code"), including, without limitation, the following primary purpose and objectives:


1.      Award scholarships to assist eligible Douglas S. Freeman High School seniors in funding educational costs of an accredited college, university, trade, vocational, or other post-high school education.


2.      Award scholarships to assist eligible prior recipients of a Stuart H. Slusher    Memorial Scholarship in funding educational costs of an accredited college, university, trade, vocational, or other post-high school education.


3.      To educate the community about teenage and young adult suicide as a means to prevent such suicides.


We are pleased to report that the scholarship fund now has grown to over $35,000.  The support is broad based, coming from over 200 individuals and organizations.
